Vaccine Shipments Delayed By Weather

Extreme winter weather is causing some delays in COVID-19 vaccine shipments.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention said the U.S. government is projecting widespread delays in shipments over the next few days.

Due to the severe inclement weather, Leavenworth County Health Department's vaccine shipment for this week has been delayed by the federal government.  This has caused us not to be able to administer nearly the anticipated number of vaccinations planned for this week. We are hopeful we will receive our delayed allotment soon, along with our next scheduled shipment, allowing for another vaccine clinic for next week. We are continuing to administer the 2nd dose of the vaccine as required this week.

The Health Department is working through the vaccine interest list as quickly as possible. The list currently has over 7,500 individuals waiting for the vaccine, with more signing up daily. The Health Department has administered over 5,100 first dose vaccines to individuals in Phase 1 and Phase 2 and will continue to do so as we receive the doses.  Once a vaccination appointment is available, we email individuals to let them know their vaccine appointment time and location.

We are currently working on a solution that will inform individuals that they have successfully signed up on the list and a communication process for those signed up that have questions.

Please understand that calling the health department has put a tremendous workload on staff answering several hundred calls a day. These calls are pulling our team away from them working on both the vaccine clinics and process improvements.
