(2) Additional Cases of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Leavenworth County

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, KAN. (March 20, 2020) – The Leavenworth County Health Department is announcing (2) additional positive cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Leavenworth County. The additional cases bring Leavenworth County to (4) total positive cases. The positive cases were identified through testing sent to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s Laboratories.

The 1st affected individual is a male in his 20s that had recent travel history and the 2nd affected individual is a female in her 40’s who has had no recent travel history. Neither of the individuals are related or associated to the previous positive cases. Leavenworth County Health Department is working diligently to identify any close contacts of these individuals. Those that were exposed will be contacted by LVCOHD as soon as possible. Both individuals remain quarantined at their homes along with any family members at this time.

“Leavenworth County citizen’s need to be listening and taking all precautions very seriously and now is the time to implement these precautions if you are not doing so already. We now have 2 cases that appear to have been contracted from community transmission.” said Jamie Miller, Leavenworth County Health Officer.

The Health Department urges the public to continue to take appropriate precautions. Everyone should practice good hygiene, stay informed, practice social distancing, and limit in-person interactions. If you are experiencing symptoms such as cough, fever, or other respiratory problems, call your healthcare provider or an urgent care clinic first to determine if testing is needed. If symptoms are mild, do not go to the emergency room, as this resource needs to remain available for those with the most critical needs.
