The past six months as your new Leavenworth County Commissioner have flown by. My term as Commissioner began with an F-4 tornado plowing through the Linwood area destroying 48 homes and damaging many others. It was an honor to be able to represent the area and get to know so many of our citizens as they showed strength of character in the midst of disaster. It was great to see the community come together in unity to face the adversity of the situation. It was my privilege to work with so many community organizations in the disaster response.

Some of the response efforts that were especially meaningful included the International Boy Scouts of America members helping to clear debris, watching Dan Tallman and the fire fighters of the Sherman Township Fire Departments showing leadership during the clean-up, seeing the many relief organizations and members of the community joining together to assist those in need, seeing the county emergency management response, and watching the response of Churches and faith-based organizations. The relief efforts were underscored by a fund-raising banquet attended by many members of the community at the Elm Grove Baptist Church. Through all the suffering our community survived and our community values remain strong.
